I am writing to disagree with the petitioners request that the board mandate vaccines for all school employees and students.
The petitioner argues that, by making the vaccine mandatory for all, that COVID-19 will essentially cease to exist, which, there is no evidence to show is true. This is a corona virus - and there is no vaccine for any corona that will eliminate it completely. Her assertion that vaccines should be mandated because her daughter and all other students have the right to attend school without being unnecessarily put at risk by other students and teachers is a false argument. The vaccine won't prevent every human being from becoming infected or from spreading COVID-19, just as the flu vaccine does not prevent every single human who receives it from getting and spreading the flu.
The petitioner also states that "the irrational minority should not be dictating the public health policy for VA or the schools." Being cautious of an experimental vaccine mandated on an entire populace is not irrational. On the contrary, mandating an experimental vaccine on an entire population that live in a free republic, is irrational.
Vaccinations for COVID-19 should not be mandatory for teachers or students.
