I realize that there is controversy about whether any medical procedure, including vaccines, should be mandatory or voluntary (I believe that personal medical decisions should be made by the person in question), but that is not the issue here. At issue is the removal of the religious exemption. So we are no longer simply dealing with medical freedom and bodily autonomy, but venturing into the realm of religious persecution and repression of protected freedoms. Needles to say, this proposed rule would violate the freedom of religion, which is a fundamentally protected right under the Constitution. There would therefore be challenges to this rule, as it is clearly unconstitutional; but meanwhile, if such a rule were to pass, even while the court challenges were underway, there would be a vast flood of people exiting the education system, including teachers, support staff, and of course students. We are already seeing the disruptions in other parts of the economy (in the aviation industry and the medical community, for instance) as a result of such wrongly-considered rules and mandates. Don't bring this tyranny to the schools. Let conscientious objectors opt out.
