My children, my husband, and I have all had Covid. The effects of this awful virus differed greatly between us. While my husband and I required the infusion, my children did not. My children had very mild fevers for 3 days. By day 2, they were back to their typical energy levels. They had no coughing, congestion, or any of the other symptoms (except for the mild fever) associated with covid. My husband and I are now fully vaccinated with the Mederna and Pfizer vaccines, respectively. Given the superior immune system that my children displayed with this virus, we will NOT allow any vaccine whose long-term side effects have yet to be determined to be injected into them. There are too many unknowns. We are not “anti-vaxers.” In fact, my children are fully vaccinated with all that the public schools require as well as more. These FDA-approved vaccines have been well studied for both short- and long-term side effects. NONE of the covid vaccines have been studied with respect to long-term side effects. Given our experience with this awful virus, we choose to wait for more data on the vaccines and will take our chances with the virus. If that means having to remove our children from Loudoun County Public Schools, unfortunately, that is what we will do to protect our children.
