Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
The Guidelines for Working with Students Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Virginia Public Schools were published by the Virginia Department of Education in 2008, revised in 2012, and modified and updated in September 2019. The information in the 2019 Guidelines reflects the current federal law and state regulations pertaining to special education. The modifications and updates provide current state and national demographic data, instructional best practices, and expanded educational resources for evaluating and educating children who are deaf and hard of hearing in Virginia.
