Continuing Education is Part of Business
I do agree with the negative comments posted here. Continuing education is an additional expense and administrative burden. I also realize that it is a necessary part of doing business in today's litigious environment. As a registered engineer in 40 states, I have seen the CE requirement proliferate through the states over the last 15 years. I didn't like it at first, but now I realize that it has helped in maintaining current knowledge of new systems, equipment, codes, etc. Don't be afraid, its not that bad.
I do urge the State to keep the system simple and in line with other states. This will help with the administrative burdens. For example: Please don't do what Florida has done. Although they don't require many hours, mandatory courses and approved curriculums are expensive. Course must be applicable to ALL states' requirements.
The 16 hour requirement is an unusual number. Most other states' requirements are 15 hours for an annual or 30 hours for a biennial renewal period.
