As someone who has provided social and emotional supports in the school setting for many years; SEL is not appropriate for the public school setting. Parents already expect the schools to raise their children. SEL further puts the burden on the school, and teachers, who are not qualified and do not have the time to implement this flawed approach. Even if well intentioned, SEL will actually polarize and divide students into classes and groups. We have been working so hard to break down barriers, serving individual needs, and bringing students together. This is healthy; individual differences celebrated, supported, unifying as the student body. SEL shows a child what "group" they belong to, how "groups" differ, and why they should be in conflict with their classmates. This is not what we need. I pray SEL does not move forward. Thank you!
