Thanks so much for getting back with me so promptly as well as accepting my comment prior to January 5, 2009. I feel that an individual with an unrelated degree is definately more qualified than someone with just a highschool diploma or GED. My college education has taught many fundamental skills (problem solving, reading, writting, math, science & self discipline) all of which are much more complex than anything I'd experienced in highschool. Although, I may not have a related degree, I still have spent four years of my time, money, and efforts to obtain a BS in Anthropology. Now I have someone telling me that there is no difference between a four year college degree and a GED. Also, my first two years of college was comprised of the same classes that every college student takes. The new regs state that a two year related degree is better than a four year non-related degree?? I understand that people with a background in this field should have less work experience requirements. I would put my last six years of designing onsite systems and evaluating soils against anyone with a four year degree in Biology. All I want is the opportunity to sit for the test. In the last six years I've also attended many classes (NCState) and VOWRA confreneces to learn as much as I can about the profession. Your asking me to what makes me more qualified with a BS in Science than someone with a highschool diploma. The same thing that makes someone more qualified with a Master's Degree that a Bachelor's Degree, time experience and the fact that that individual has had more formal education. I don't feel that I'm being unreasonable, but why did I go to college if I didn't count for something? Thanks for your time. Please consider these things, and I am more than willing to provide references detailing my work experience, conferences and classes regarding the proffession. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, but I know there are a lot of persons qualifing to be AOSEs that are much less qualified than me, which is very frustrating. Therefore, the fact that an individual has a Bachelor's degree should infer that they are generally more competent that someone with a highschool diploma. Please reconsider the 6 year experience requirement with a Bachelors degree.
Have a great Holliday, and Happy New Year!!
Thanks,
