I support non LVTs being able to place IV catheters. Most of the LVTs I work with support changing the law as well. If the LVT:DVM ratio when compared to the nurse:MD ratio then I would have not problem with the law the way it currently reads. With the massive shortage in LVTs in this state, it is hard to get the hospital staffed appropriately while meeting the requirements of the law to take care of the patients neeeds. This puts a lot of pressure on the workforce to do more in an area where there is a shortage. I am sure this contributes to the burn out rate for LVTs. If we can free the LVTs up from this task, we can use them in other areas of the hospital where their skills are needed.
