I understand that the Board has proposed that owners be notified that students, rather than fully licensed veternarians, will or could be administering treatment and care to our pets. However, posting a sign in some innocuous office location is simply insufficient for the public to properly give informed consent to such treatment. Rather, it is essential that owners be explictly notified of student involvement and be required to consent with full knowledge of what a student may do to our pets. The benefits that the office receives from having students rather than fully licensed veternarians administer care and treatment to our pets clearly outweighs the so-called "burden" of any additional paperwork or conversations that may be required for a pet owner to be properly informed in order to consent to student treatment.
