Checking Expiration Date Serves No Purpose

During a recent primary election I was mistakenly told by the election worker sitting next to me that I had to check every ID to see that it had not expired. Apparently the election Chief did not hear these instructions so he did not correct this instruction. It being the first time I had worked as an election official I took her word that it was something I was supposed to do. I can speak from personal experience that this was extremely time consuming and would have really slowed the process if the usual number of voters had been voting. In this election only a little over 100 voted in a precinct which ususally has 1800 votes. If the person has a picture ID why would checking to see if it had expired make any difference? It's just another way to make the voting process more cumbersome and frustrating for the election workers and the voter.
