Dear Stabe Board of Elections members,
I'm writing to object to the changes proposed concerning the definition of "valid" in relation to voter identification. The proposed regulation would put an undue burden on many voters who are unable, for a variety of reasons, to have a driver's license updated. The proposed regulation would, in effect, deny voting rights to anyone without the time, money, means, or state of health to travel to the DMV to get a new license issued. The SBE is, I am sure, eager to have the fullest possible participation in voting, and the proposed regulation would only serve to suppress the vote. The fact that a driver's license is expired doesn't mean that the person who holds it is! The function of guaranteeing identification and the validity of the person to vote is not impeded by him or her not being valid as a driver.
