Support for Anti-Trans Regulation at Board of Health

I strongly support this bill. Before explaining my position, I want to state something I believe we should all agree on: every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, sex, or religion.

At the same time, biological sex is a matter of science. While people may experience gender identity differently, girls and boys are biologically distinct, and that reality matters when shaping policies that affect schools and students.

I understand the argument that this issue involves a relatively small percentage of students. However, the Department of Education has threatened to withhold approximately $167 million in federal funding from FCPS over this matter. That level of financial impact would affect the entire school district and, ultimately, the education of the vast majority of students.

Even if the population directly impacted by these policies is small, the consequences of noncompliance would be felt broadly, through reduced resources, larger class sizes, and diminished educational opportunities. As a parent, I cannot support policies that risk negatively impact the learning environment and educational experience of the majority of students.

For these reasons, I support this bill and urge the Board to carefully consider both the scientific realities and the broader consequences for our schools and children.
