As a parent of children (including daughters) in Henrico County Public Schools, I, like the vast majority of parents in Virginia and nationwide, support this extremely reasonable and straightforward rule which is essential for protecting the integrity of girls' sports.
The reason that many kids' sports are sex-specific is that biological males and biological females have entirely different physiologies and capabilities that are of the utmost relevance when it comes to athletic activity. In order for young women to have fair competition which encourages them to develop their skills, they must not be forced to unfairly compete against or with biological males. Without this rule, many young women and their families will simply forgo organized athletics, which would be detrimental to the physical fitness and intellectual and social development of our next generation.
There are apparently numerous comments here which purport to oppose this rule change. However the vast majority of these comments are from individuals who are not parents of children and not located in Virginia, and many are from professional political advocacy organizations rather than individual citizens. While the comments listed in opposition here are largely astroturfed in this way, the comments in support of this rule are from actual Virginia parents of daughters who have a real stake in this issue.
