While I generally oppose increasing costs on small businesses, I understand it must happen periodically. However, the fees were increased last year and once again, are being increased at a time when Cosmetology Schools are struggling, having lost a third of their income due to a drastic reduction in the length of the program. Unfortunately a reduction in the length of the program doesn't reduce expenses, which have only continued to increase. Since there hasn't been an increase in students enrolling in Cosmetology, schools must now consider adding alternate programs in order to remain operational.
However, in searching through the possible program additions, there are fees associated with adding programs for Barber Schools, Cosmetology Schools, Nail Tech and Waxing Schools, but not with Tattooing Schools or Esthetics Schools. Why give the break to some schools and not others? Why is it free for Esthetics Schools to add an Instructor program but not for any other school? Why can you add a Master Esthetician program at no charge, but not a Master Barber program? I'm struggling with the inconsistency and lack of fairness, especially at a time when Cosmetology Schools in particular are at risk of closure.
I'm encouraging that you consider ways to make it easier for ALL schools to add programs, starting with the fees.
