strong disappointment

We express our strong disappointment that Legally Responsible Individuals (LRIs) who care for their disabled children must continue to justify their role as paid caregivers under Consumer Directed Services. While we support the intent of the proposed amendments, we oppose the underlying attitude conveyed through its requirements. The demand for an “advertisement” and “interview notes” as part of the documentation process is an excessive and unreasonable burden. Requiring a job description for employment—without benefits—for what are often highly demanding caregiving roles is, quite frankly, absurd. This stipulation underscores the condescending approach taken by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) towards family caregivers.
