LRI

The ability for LRIs to serve as paid caregivers has greatly impacted our child’s well-being. He now experiences greater security with consistent caregiving and a stable schedule, avoiding the disruption of constantly rotating unfamiliar individuals. We no longer have to disclose personal information about his diagnosis to others, hoping they will overlook or understand his challenges, or worse, diminish his dignity or our family’s. We strongly urge the removal of Objective Written Documentation, while maintaining the provision for LRIs as paid caregivers, without the burden of proving the difficulty in securing workers for minimal pay and without benefits. Respite care should be provided to unpaid LRI caregivers, offering families a much-needed break when they find someone capable of stepping in occasionally, even if they cannot fully commit to the ongoing care of loved ones with disabilities.
