The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for critical infrastructure resilience projects, energy efficiency programs, and flood resistance.
Considering Virginia Beach passed a ballot referendum last year with 72% in support that RAISED property taxes by 50% (!!!) and raised over $560M in general obligation bond debt to mitigate flooding, it's never been more apparent than now that climate change is here, and it's impacting Virginians. Not only does the funding from RGGI help coastal communities, but it also helps combat the climate crisis.
Our participation in initiatives like this should be non-negotiable. Keep Virginia in RGGI and strengthen our fossil free energy supply.
