Who is to say what is relevent to our profession? We all have focus areas:structures, geotechnical, transportation, etc. Unless the State intends to establish individual committess to approve specific classes for the focus areas and to add new classes and remove old classes on a periodic basis, then what is the point of taking a class that will never be used? Until now, Virginia seems to have been up and running well. Nothing has collapsed, the trains are running, and the lights are on. All of this without CE units. The requirement will cause burden on the work force by taking away from our duties, yet we still have to complete our projects on time and within budget. The time away will have to be made up somehow; possibly by evening or weekend duty. Then that is more likely to cause harm as we are anxious and tired and more likely to make mistakes. Yes, other states require CE, but I am sure they went through the same issues. Has anyone done a study or is this a done deal?
