As both a Professional Engineer (Geotechnical) and a Licensed Professional Soil Scientist, my 30+ years of experience has shown that there is a difference between a soil scientist's and an engineer's understanding of the formation of soil and water transport behavior. Our engineering community needs the knowledge, skills, and experience of soil scientists for public safety; particularly in the process of evaluating soils for septic and infiltration systems. I strongly support maintaining the licensure of Professional Soil Scientists.
