On behalf of the Virginia-based Washington Regional Alcohol Program or WRAP (a 37-year-old nonprofit organization fighting drunk driving and underage drinking and three-time winner of Virginia’s prestigious Governor’s Transportation Safety Award), I’m writing to you to support Mr. Tom Stein’s (Deputy General Counsel for CLEAR) petition to amend 3VAC5-50-20 of the Regulations of the Virginia ABC Authority.
This proposed amendment to Virginia ABC’s regulations to “recognize that licensed retailers of alcoholic beverages may utilize biometric identification, and specifically the patented processes of CLEAR, to make a determination of the legal age of a purchaser of alcoholic beverages” seeks to proactively deploy much-needed technology to ensure that only individuals of legal age are able to purchase alcoholic beverages in the Commonwealth.
As a means of integrating biometric identification technology to deter underage drinking in Virginia and its consequences, the nonprofit WRAP supports this proposed amendment to 3VAC5-50-20 of the Regulations of the Virginia ABC Authority
