At a time when the state and national need for accessible and qualified mental health services are paramount; without empirical evidence to support the supremacy of any particular accreditation body; with CHEA advocating academic quality of higher education programs; with ACA expanding eligibility for LPC ; with an established history of welcoming qualified individuals based on experience/supervision, knowledge/competency and the passage of a professional examination… the rationale behind the Virginia Board’s push to reduce/restrain a qualified, diverse and enriched counselor base in the state of Virginia is quite curious. At what cost to those highly qualified to provide services/supports and to those who are in need of such services/supports? I have read the comments provided and have been present during portions of this process. I concur with those voicing their opposition for the many informed reasons previously stated.
