TI am a LCPC in the State of Maryland who has practiced since 2006. I was disheartened to hear of the changes concerning CACREP only graduates being allowed to practice under TRICARE. Even though a grace period has been given it isn't best practice to alienate those who have practiced and educated themselves to enter and remain in this field. As a graduate of a Non CACREP Program, I am skilled and as educated as many of my licensed counterparts in Social Work and Mental Health who seem to have the upper hand with Congressional decisions. As a front line licensed worker many of those who practice under different licensing struggle with important information and skills such as DSM V diagnosis, changes and criteria and building treatment and counseling around the diagnosis given to their clients. I totally disagree with these changes to separate out professions and criteria when our clients will continue to cross paths into each profession for various reasons. We need to focus on how to solidify our professions to bring about change rather than place our professions in needless categories heading toward the same outcomes and goals. Thank you for your time and I hope that licensed professionals from Non CACREP Programs will be able to continue to receive the opportunity to practice and serve clients in need. ype over this text and enter your comments here.
