I believe the Virginia board and the counseling profession are quite capable of evaluating the quality of an individual's preparation to serve as a counselor without eliminating solid study programs out there who do not participate in the CACREP only. This move could restrict the movement of counseling professionals between Virginia and other states, as well as divide schools and online education programs that do not require CACREP. Many solid education schools, even ones such as Harvard and others who's programs predate this CACREP company, choose not to participate in the CACREP accreditation process due to the high costs and the accreditation process.
