I am opposing the possibility of dental assistants performing scaling on patients. Having no education, proper training, or practice can tremendously lower the standard of care of dental offices. Even perio type I patients need to have a licensed trained professional working with them. The patients will not feel confident with the lack of knowledge and training from a dental assistant. Much more confusion and even an ethical boundary is crossed once an untrained and uneducated dental assistant performs a prophylaxis.
I strongly disagree and vote no against dental assistants scaling. If that is the case, then RDH's will be more qualified to perform restorative procedures "under training"
