Before I started in a dental hygiene program, I might have agreed in allowing dental assistants to perform scaling. However, I now see how important and meticulous the skills are that a hygienist is responsible for.  Please do not let DAII to have this responsibility- I am speaking not only for concern of my profession, but more for the quality of care that I would want to receive as a patient.
