The proposed new definition of "valid" is a proposed solution in search of a problem Voting is a basic right in our democracy. We should be seeking way to make it EASIER for citizens to vote, not harder. The defintion adopted by the SEB on June 10 is acceptable and should be accepted. The proposed new definition that includes an expiration date will make it more difficult for elderly to vote and result in discriminatory application of the ID requirements since not all eligible IDs have an expiration date, including the new VA Voter photo ID. It will also require election officials to make legal determinations for which they lack the necessary data and qualifications. Further, how are election officials to determine whether an otherwise acceptable ID without an expiration date is eligible.
This proposed new defintiion of "valid" appears to be another effort to restrict voting. That's a very un-American thing to do!
