I live in Loudoun County and I oppose Action 4905.
The Board of Health is attempting massive overreach that will lead to nothing but the Orwellian policing and harassment of women, regardless of whether they are born or identify as such.
This petition is a farce, a waste of time serving only as a distraction from the duty to protect the health and promote the well-being of every Virginian.
My initial concern lies in its enforcement. How exactly will it be determined who shall and shall not be allowed in a woman's restroom? Certainly, legal sex can eventually be modified, so going off of one's driver's license or even birth certificate won't do.
Perhaps blood panels, but the hormones of people from either sex can be out of the norm (as I will elaborate further on regarding personal experience).
Would this include mandatory physical inspections for all who deign to enter a locker room? What's there to stop biological women from being stopped, then demanded to show their genitals in order to "prove" they belong in that restroom? Does that demand not constitute clear violation of privacy?
I am a biological woman. I have a hormonal imbalance that causes me to grow facial hair. Sure, I can and do shave, but sometimes, stubble happens. I have gotten strange looks, and asked if I "belong" in public restrooms before. Why should I be scrutinized and inspected?
I have to wonder, how does this proposal actually help women or keep us safe? How many transgender athletes could there possibly be in the state of Virginia to constitute the implementation of wide-spread compulsory gender inspections?
Although I disagree entirely that trans-women are a threat to the safety of biological women, I will leave this with a quote from Benjamin Franklin:
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
