Codifying gender is not in the purview of the state government. If this is a health concern and not a misappropriation of government time and resources to wage a culture war, which it is not, then it would be more accurate and in the interest of public health to fight for transgendered girls’ and women’s right to gender-affirming spaces and care since that is the only life-saving measure on the table here. The only people that need to get out of the bathroom and off the team roster are the politicians.
