HB909/SB488

Transitioning between multiple caregivers has always been distressing for my child, who has autism. The comfort and familiarity I provide as their parent is essential to their stability and happiness. Outsourcing their care to strangers disrupts their routine and causes unnecessary stress. I should be the first choice as their caregiver, providing the consistency they need. HB909/SB488 and the Virginia General Assembly’s actions have allowed me to provide the consistent care that my child relies on. This legislation has been crucial in preventing the disruption and stress that comes with frequent caregiver changes. Amending these provisions would undo the stability we’ve worked so hard to maintain. The current waiver draft could require us to bring in new caregivers who may not understand my child's needs, leading to increased anxiety and behavioral issues. This would severely affect my child's ability to function and thrive.
