As a CPR/First Aid instructor for the last twenty years and someone who has an epi-pen for a serious allergy, I am very cognizant of the importance of prompt medical attention. I think that there should be consideration given to code 8VAC20-781-40 stating that child-care centers should stock epinephrine, as there could be potential issues without the proper thought behind such an initiative. Considerations such as where centers will be able to access epinephrine (as there have been many shortages over the past several years), how we will offset the cost of this epinephrine, what type of training will be required for its use, and how the cost of the medication and training may affect an already financially strained industry should be made prior to initiating this policy.
