I feel that I worked very hard to become a dental hygiene student and I already take pride in it, even though I haven't graduated yet. After all of the compentencies, long nights at the library, schooling and sweat, I'll have earned my title. Dental assistants shouldn't be able to perfom subgingival debribments. Where would the concern and care to the patients come into play? What kind of schooling would these assistants get and how detailed would it be? I feel that if an assistant would like to become a dental hygienist, then they should go through either the 2 year or 4 year programs and actually become a hygienst.
Thank you,
