I am very much against allowing DAs to scale. They do not have the knowledge as DAs needed to scale patients and a simple course will no compensate for that knowledge. Scaling should be done by hygienists that have been taught the necessary skills and have the knowledge of the periodontal tissues. If DAs want to scale patients then they should go to school to be a dental hygienist.
