Having worked in Dentistry for almost 30 years, 19 of them as a RDH I am strongly opposed to Dental Assistants being trained "on the job" to basically practice Dental Hygiene. As a fromer CDA I have assisted in a variety of restorative procedures and had the opportunity to work with Dentists that took the time to show me how procedures were done; this in no way qualifies me to perform them! On the job training for DA's would be the same thing. The practice of Dental Hygiene goes far beyond scaling and prophies, just as the practice of Dentistry is more than drill and fill.
