Action | Amend Requirements for Carrying Handguns in State Forests |
Stage | NOIRA |
Comment Period | Ended on 7/8/2009 |
Concealed carry permit holders should be permitted to carry their weapons in state forests under the same rules as apply to state parks.
Although state forests and state parks are administered by different agencies, this distinction is not transparent to the public. Having different rules is confusing to the public, and that is especially a problem when there are criminal penalties associated with misunderstanding which rules apply. CHP holders have voluntarily subjected themselves to police background investigations and are among the most law abiding citizens of the Commonwealth and should not be saddled with the extra burden of differentiating between state parks and state forests (or, for that matter, the state highway leading to either).
