I am very much in favor of increasing the stature of LVT's, but at present there are not enough of them to meet the needs of practices across the state. Therefore it would be inappropriate from a health care perspective to limit critical veterinary services to just LVT's. A reasonable compromise reflecting the current situation is to allow non-licensed technicians under the immediate supervision of a veterinarian to be able to place IV catheters except jugular catheters. This will allow critical treatment of animals appropriately in practices which are not able to hire an LVT due to the inadequate supply of them at this time.
