I am a retired law enforcement officer and am now a pastor and radio/tv broadcaster and what I tell you comes from experience.Everywhere we ban handguns in any public place, we are putting up a sign that criminals interpret as:SITTING DUCKS FOUND HERE..COME ON IN!!!Gun free zones are observed ONLY by law-abiding criminals. Criminals scoff at gun laws. They love it.

Everyday I go out on the street, I see registered sex offenders and former mental patients that I transported to Central State Hospital for some ungodly crime or another and NOW they are out.The State forests are great places to ply their trade with abandon when they know that Joe or Jane citiizen can't carry protection...

I love our parks and forests, but knowing what I know, I would NEVER venture where I can't carry.
