I urge the Virginia Deparment of Social Services to restore anti-discrimination protections to the final rules regarding adoption and foster care. The agency should be looking out for the best interest of Virginia's children and teens, not looking to further discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Virginians. Same-sex parents can and do provide loving homes for children, and there are many, many children who need the care through Virginia's adoption and foster system. State-licensed placement agencies should not be allowed to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, just as they should not be allowed to discriminate on a number of other factors, such as race or gender.
