L'Arche Communities

I have been a friend and supporter of the L'Arche communities (a world-wide and world famous confederation) both in Virginia and elsewhere for several decades.  They offer a unique atmosphere and program approach to providing a community living, family-style environment, based on a quality of personal relationship for persons with intellectual disabilities by fostering a supportive holistic living community to persons whose disabilities do not permit fully independent living through the integration of living of persons with intellectual disabilities with persons who do not have such disabilities.  This model of living together is integral to and fundamental to the quality of life the L'Arche communities provide, and thus the proposed probition of "staff" living in community would destroy the L'Arche model and prevent these long-established communities from continuing to exist in Virginia.  Thus I strongly urge the deletion of the phrase prohibiting "staff" living with the permanent residents in these group homes.
