Support this amendment

Having worked in multiple states where veterinary assistants are allowed to and trained to place peripheral intravenous catheters, I believe that the state of VA is far behind on allowing this.  I have yet to see examples of the hazards posed when this is done under supervision which is what the petition is proposing.  Quite the contrary, in many of the practices I have worked, these assistants have been the most proficient people in the hospital at this task (including LVTs and DVMs).  It harms and delays patient care when we cannot utilize these skilled individuals because of this Virginia restriction. Even if this petition goes through, Virginia will be among the most restrictive with respect to restricting duties to LVTs.
