I do NOT agree with passing any law that will allow dental assistants to scale Perio I patients. That is the responsibility of a certified and trained dental hygienist. If a dental assistant wants to do a scaling procedure, then they need to go to hygiene school. It takes more training than a few hours in a classroom to provide proper patient care. Many other factors come into play with scaling, even a patient with healthy gums. It's not just "cleaning someone's teeth". Factors such as patient medications and medical history come into play and a dental assistant won't know all the risk factors before treating a patient. While they may not harm their gums, they may harm the patient medically. Please do NOT pass this.
