I loved the comment from Stacey Andrew, a dental assistant, #3759, on supragingival scaling, "how hard can it be", and from Mark, a dental patient, #3779, he has allows had an assistant clean his teeth and has been very happy with his cleanings. I hope the BOD members take a long hard look at these remarks and realize that this is the mentality by many assistants and patients who are uninformed of what exactly is involved in a dental cleaning and exam. I would also recommend to Mark, the dental patient, that he see a Dentist who employs a hygienist to have a through exam done to be sure he does not have periodontal disease going undetected.
In all fairness, it could be that many dentists who have not scaled since college, really are unaware of the amount of calculus that gets left undetected and not removed at routine recall appts. It appears to be just a little suprag. calc., but in reality there is quit a bit more subg. that goes undetected- I see it all the time from other practices. That is the only logical reason that I can come up with for this proposal, that and increase in patient turn out for profit.
Please do not include supra or subgingival scaling in the proposals. Thank you
