Dental Assistants should not be scaling- this procedure requires in depth training and should not be taken lightly. Our patients depend on us to provide them the best possible treatment. Their oral health should not be compromised. A dental hygienist is the health care professional who should be providing these sevices, not a dental assistant. Dentists should realize that saving money by having assistants do scaling will only hurt their practice, not help it.
