As a patient in Virginia, I do not want my teeth cleaned by a dental assistant. I would only allow my teeth to be cleaned by a registered dental hygienist. If my dentist allowed a dental assistant to scale my teeth, I would find another dentist who would not. The board of dentistry needs to consider patients' well-being and not just economics. Vote no to scaling by dental hygienists. Thank you.
