'No' to scaling by new Dental Assistant II

I oppose Dental Assistants providing scaling services under this new title.
As a Dental Hygienist, I value each and every aspect of patient care that I provide including but not limited to scaling of teeth.
Dental scaling involves removal of plaque and calculus above and below the gumline.    The proper removal of plaque and calculus is critical to the overall protection of  teeth and gums, prevention of oral disease and achievement of oral health.
If dental scaling is completed by the Dental Assistant II,  limited evaluation, assessment, and diagnosis of  periodontal and oral health would occur, without complete measures to clinically facilitate oral health services and effectively educate patients to implement  oral health habits.
