Dear Sirs:
My biggest objection to DA lls to scale teeth is for the procedure to be done properly and completely by the dental professional. If the dentist decides on which patient has only supra calculus he will have to explore and document the deposits on each said patient. I dont believe the dentist has the time to do this procedure and it will not be cost effective for him to do it. I see this leading to a patient who has had a supra only scaling done by a DAII with a great chance of subgingival calculus being left . The patient is under the impression that they have had a complete and thorough scaling yet will be in effect left in a unhealthy state with a greater potential for periodontal disease. In my opinion this will lead to law suits which will further erode the patients confidence in their professional dental care and be costly to the already strained dentists.
This is a total injustice to the patient and not fair to put the DAII in a position of a possible legal fiasco. I can see no positives to this idea.
