No, I do not support dental assistants providing scaling. 

As a patient, I feel this would degrade the quality of dental care for all patients.  Dental Hygienists are properly trained to perform this procedure.   To lower standards to allow dental assistants to do this in order to move more patients through the door is appalling.  If my dentist starting allowing lesser qualified staff, i.e., dental assistants, to do this, I would find another dentist.
