While we're at it, let let hygienists place fillings and do crowns. Lets let DDSs do facial surgery. Lets let an MD do scalings. why not, if we have some training, right?
Would you want your hygienist to place a filling? No, so why would you want an asst do a scaling with currettes? It's the same thing. No one can do a better job than the person who is PROPERLY trained for it. I dont even believe a DDS can do an excellent cleaning. It's not their area a "expertise" Not to mention, how painful it would be for a pt to have a cleaning by an asst whos had a month long course on it. Good luck keeping those pts in your office. Lets use our heads in this matter!
