It is extremely difficult to find good quality hygienists with accurate knowledge about dental care. By allowing assistants to do scaling an significant increase of confusion would occur in patients. Studies show that our oral health affects the rest of the body. Without significant and through training of the human body it is difficult for a person to relay the message properly. The standard of care will dramatically decrease in Virginia as the level of education narrows to a broader range of care providers. Hygienists are trained so that they can specialize in scaling.
