I am not in Virginia, But in this issue we are all Virginians. Virginia and its people have a proud history of being willing to suffer and sacrafice their lives and fortunes to defend their convictions.. We see some things differently today than in the 19th Century. Let us not judge Lee and the others on one single issue lest we be likewise judged in some distant future. Some things we do not or should not see differently. Instead let us look to these men as examples of courage, honor, and diligence in service to what was right in their time and in their eyes. Let us pray that we have the wisdom to learn from their examples and their mistakes and have similar fortitude to act to defend what we hold dear. Let the City of Richmond and the Commonwealth of Virginia have the fortitude to protect its past by protecting the statues on Monument Ave and providing free access to them. And let it be known the civil authorities will be prosecuting with all vigor and to the full extent of the law any who would deface or attempt to remove its history from public display.
