Id like to oppose scaling by dental assisstants. I think it is insane to have a dental assisstant scale a patient even if they are only a type 1. If I was a patient, I would not at all feel comfortable having a dental assisstant perform this task. Also, more goes into cleaning a person's teeth then just scaling. Without proper education there is no way that an assisstant would be able to provide appropriate care. Being a dental hygiene student at a 4 year college, I know that I would not be competent enough to scale a persons teeth without at least a couple of years of professional schooling. People learning to scale need special attention that I'm sure would not be provided in a private practice. Allowing DAII to scale a type1 would do a huge disservice to our community. Please dont let this pass!!!
